FULLERTON, Calif. - The 2009 USA Baseball 16U National Team Trials opened on Sunday morning at Goodwin Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.
The U.S. started with a morning defensive workout that began at 8:30 a.m. The morning session consisted of individual position work, fly ball communication, infield situations, outfield drills and situational hitting with live defensive play.
Following lunch at the stadium, the team headed back to the hotel for some rest.
The afternoon session, which was an offensive workout, began at 4:30 p.m. After stretching and throwing to get warmed up, the team took batting practice on the field and in the cages. The evening session ended at 8:00.
The U.S. players and coaches capped off their day with a nice dinner at Red Robin.
On Monday, the U.S. will have another defensive practice in the morning. The first trials game is set for Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
Ryan Harris (Jupiter, Fla.), John Hochstatter (Danville, Calif.), Cory Geisler (Spring, Texas) and Hawtin Buchanan (Biloxi, Miss.) are scheduled to pitch for the Blue Team, while Kenny Mathews (Diamond Bar, Calif.), Deshorn Lake (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands), Ricky Jacquez (El Paso, Texas) and Chris Diaz (Miami, Fla.) are set to take the mound for the Red Team.
